Dear All

Sadly a thing has been bugging me for ages, well for the last few months. I find that I am not feed hunting and that I am spending all of my time reading emails, searching sites, and compiling the database. Also I am failing to store pictures and make reports. for my good friend Roger Bunney. It is therefore with some regret that I have decided to cease updating the databases. It is either that or I quit the satellite scene altogether.

The monthly update is the months new additions to the database. Compiling the update/database is a costly business not only in the extreme amount of time it takes but in monetary terms as well.

The data base stretches to four volumes in typewritten form. Being that I print a new database every month for quick checking purposes, this takes a lot of ink and paper, and ink is not cheap as we all know.

I have to spend ages sifting through reports of feeds found, these are then recorded onto cards, then the cards at some time are entered in the database, after confirming that there is not a similar entry already. It is so time consuming that it has become unrealistic to continue. Many feedhunters do not report fully and I finish up chasing the feeds to fill in the missing detail.

If I go away for a few days, when I return I am faced with going through literally hundreds if not thousands of emails and visits to satellite sites. Also a change in satellite at an orbital position creates yet another time consuming update.

I started the database upon the advent of digital TV way back in 1999 so it is the end of 11 years of data chasing. I hope you understand my feelings.

The database has also taken me away from the technical aspect of satellite television and I am going to have to spend the next few months catching up technically. I also have a good few repairs and modifications that I wish to do with my system, as well spend more time on my other hobbies of drawing and bird watching.

Yours...........Roy.
